James 1:6a - "But when you ask God, you must believe [ask with faith] and not doubt."
Do Not Doubt
Matt.21:18-22 - Early the next morning, as Jesus was going back to the city, He became hungry. Seeing a fig tree beside the road, Jesus went to it, but there were no figs on the tree, only leaves [Is. 5:1–7]. So Jesus said to the tree, “You will never again have fruit.” The tree immediately dried up [withered].
When His disciples saw this, they were amazed. They asked, “How did the fig tree dry up [wither] so quickly?”
Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will be able to do what I did to this tree and even more. You will be able to say to this mountain, ‘Go, fall [Be lifted up and thrown] into the sea.’ And if you have faith, it will happen. If you believe [have faith], you will get anything you ask for in prayer.”
Luke 12:28-30 - "If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things."
Peter's Doubt
Matt.14:25-32 - Between three and six o’clock in the morning [And in the fourth watch of the night], Jesus came to them, walking on the water. When His disciples saw Him walking on the water, they were terrified. They said, “It’s a ghost!” and cried out in fear.
But Jesus quickly [immediately] spoke to them, “Have courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”
Peter said, “Lord, if it is really you, then command me to come to you on the water.”
Jesus said, “Come.”
And Peter left the boat and walked on the water to [and came toward] Jesus. But when Peter saw the wind, he became afraid [terrified] and began to sink. He shouted, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught [took hold of] Peter. Jesus said, “Your faith is small [What little faith you have; You of little faith]. Why did you doubt?”
After they got into the boat, the wind became calm [stopped]. Then those who were in the boat worshiped Jesus and said, “Truly you are the Son of God!”
Abraham Didn't Doubt
Rom.4:19-22 - Abraham was almost a hundred years old, much past the age for having children, and Sarah could not have children [Sarah’s womb was dead]. Abraham thought about all [considered; or acknowledged] this, but his faith in God did not become weak. He never doubted or stopped believing [or wavered through unbelief] that God would keep his promise. He grew stronger in his faith and gave praise [glory] to God.
Abraham felt sure [was fully convinced] that God was able to do what he had promised. So, “God accepted Abraham’s faith, and that faith made him right with God [it was credited/counted to him for righteousness; Gen. 15:6].”
Conclusion:
James 1:6-8 - Anyone who doubts is like a wave in the sea, blown up and down [driven and tossed] by the wind. Such doubters are thinking two different things at the same time [double-minded], and they cannot decide about anything they do [are unstable in all they do]. They should not think [expect] they will receive anything from the Lord.
